(70 cl, 43%) A sought-after single malt with southern Islay’s typical massive peat-smoke, it also offers a richness and dryness which turns it into a truly interesting dram. The 16 year old has become a benchmark Islay dram from the Lagavulin distillery. The nose is smoky, very concentrated and redolent of iodine, sweet spices, mature Sherry and creamy vanilla. The palate is very rich and thick – a mouthful of malt and Sherry with good fruity sweetness. The finish is long, with a spicy finish of figs, dates, peat smoke and vanilla.
